The constellations or zodiac signs occupy a certain area of space—unlike astrology’s planets and celestial bodies. I like to compare the zodiac signs to countries or domains in which one can reside and in which the celestial bodies can reside as well.
Just as countries shape the people who grow up there through their culture, the zodiac signs are formative too. Each sign has its own atmosphere, particular values and its own way of engaging with the world.
Each zodiac sign has a ruler among the celestial bodies, which has shaped this land with its particular qualities.
Aries ♈
The ruler of Aries is Mars ♂. He has left his fire and impulsiveness deeply embedded in this land. In Aries, Mars loves new beginnings and initiative. His value is existence itself.
Taurus ♉
The ruler of Taurus is Venus ♀. In Taurus, she has left behind her sensual appreciation of the external world and her love of beauty and aesthetics.
Gemini ♊
The ruler of Gemini is Mercury ☿. His speed and capacity for exchange have found a home here. In Gemini, Mercury loves communication. Here he evaluates and judges.
Cancer ♋
The ruler of Cancer is the Moon ☽. In Cancer, its capacity for feeling and inner reflection is at home. The Moon loves to feel.
Leo ♌
The ruler of Leo is the Sun ☉. The Sun is at home here. If it stands here at the time of birth, its qualities are especially strong. Sometimes annoyingly strong. In Leo, it loves itself.
Virgo ♍
The ruler of Virgo is Mercury ☿. Mercury therefore has two realms. In Virgo’s realm he has left his analytical abilities behind. Here he loves understanding and ordering things. In Virgo he is critical.
Libra ♎
The ruler of Libra is Venus ♀. She too has two realms. In Libra she has left behind her sense of harmony, aesthetics and encounter. Here she loves to come into resonance.
Scorpio ♏
The ruler of Scorpio is Pluto ♇. Mars, however, is another ruler at his side. Pluto stands for transformation, darkness and what lies hidden. Mars adds force and passion. Pluto loves standing at the edge of the abyss and looking up.
Sagittarius ♐
The ruler of Sagittarius is Jupiter ♃. The largest. He has left his urge to expand here. He loves crossing boundaries and discovering new horizons.
Capricorn ♑
The ruler of Capricorn is Saturn ♄. He rules with severity and clarity. Questions meaning and reduces things to their essence. He demands responsibility and maturity. He loves control.
Aquarius ♒
The ruler of Aquarius is Uranus ♅. He questions things and has a penchant for individuality and the unusual. He loves insight.
Pisces ♓
The ruler of Pisces is Neptune ♆. God of the seas and oceans. A vast, indistinct and intangible land full of ideals and longings. He loves fulfilment.
Lilith, Chiron and the lunar nodes are special because, unlike the celestial bodies listed above, they have no direct connection to the zodiac signs. I will be even briefer here and refer you to the Wikipedia pages on Lilith, Chiron and the lunar nodes, as well as to Lilith, Chiron and the lunar nodes in my blog “Blog – Conversations with AI”.
